September 19th - Munich to Venice
We've had a great time in Germany, now after another great breakfast we are headed to some warmer weather.
It's time to move on to Italy.
To get from Munich to Venice, we drove through the Austrian Alps and it was SNOWING! We stopped for coffee and a break for our driver. We were in very safe hands with Hub driving us in the snow and glad we weren't doing the driving.
We stopped in Egna for lunch at a pizzeria. It was a quiet little town that welcomed our hungry group.
Venice
To get to the island of Venice and our hotel we took a vaporetto, water taxi. We wheeled our suitcases onto the taxi and rode the boat around until we arrived at our stop.
Hotel Mercurio
This hotel was adorable. Part of the group was separated from the guide on our way from the boat to the hotel and we walked right past the entrance. The streets of Venice are long and narrow and you really need to pay attention to find where you are going. We had to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the lobby and then continue up the stairs to the rooms. We loved it!
Our room had wonderful windows that looked down on the courtyard of a restaurant. We were on the upper level and had beams in the ceilings that added to the quaint old world feel. Each room has been as different as each hotel.
Tonight was a group dinner at a restaurant next door to the hotel. We shared the table with Chuck and Diane. We love Italian food and we were not disappointed. Oh, and did I mention the wine was great too!
Keith took us for an after dinner stroll into Saint Mark's Square to see the night lights and hear the music.
